Locking Gamemode & It's Save Files

Would you like Gamemode's to be Locked for Players?

I was having a discussion about gamemodes and ways so players dont cheat, and one i came up with is pretty interesting for GameMode Makers.
as much like Gamejolt where theres no way to change the saves and edit the scripts without failed to log in. i thought of .rar files. then it hit me.
what if Pokemon 3D could read .rar files as if they were regular files? WinRar is known to make .rar files have the option to lock it with a requirement of a Password. this would prevent cheaters from accessing the game's data and rewriting whatever they want to do with it.

this is also related to saves. just like the GameMode Folders, GameMode Saves are created into the gamemode's folder instead of it's default folder path. this would create a more flexibility on gamemodes makers and removing the player's ability to cheat.

if .rar cannot be done, there should be another option in locking the files.

Thanks for reading!

Or nilllzz could create an application where we can encrypt the whole folder into a non human readable format and only when the player play the game, the engine itself decrypt it and run the script as usual.

yes, but you also have to worry about Gamemode Makers, wouldnt that prevent us from further progressing the development?

But GameMode's are not supposed to lock players out from cheating. If they want to, they are allowed to. If someone cheats and then has trouble normally playing afterwards, you can blame them.

Edit: Also, good job on the loaded question.

you also have to worry about Gamemode Maker's ideas into consideration. that may be the case to some gamemode makers allowing players to cheat if they want to, but yo also have Gamemode Makers such as myself to not let ANY players to cheat in anyway and to play the game the way it's meant to be played.

Yeah, but you shouldn't restrict players in their ability to modify the game as they want to. We only do that for online play because there's a competition aspect going on, with online leaderboards and so on. For offline play, it's basically Sandbox.

Also, directly regarding your suggestion of using encrypted files:
I would have a password for any archive files hardcoded to the game, but every GameMode maker also has to know this password in order to encrypt their GameMode files in the first place.
A program cannot do that because the rar archive is not open source (only the decompression part).
Writing an implementation for that is really tedious as well.

It makes everything more complicated and has a huge backslash for the users who might want to learn from the scripts and maps used in the GameMode as well.

Offline play is fine with Vanilla Pokemone 3D, however, there are whose who wants to make a legit game using the Poke3D Engine. which is also why it should have an option to lock it. the main reason why i left Poke3D in the first place because of cheaters and having my suggestions regarding this being denied and betrayed by certain individuals.

you once said you will support the gamemode makers. this should be one suggestion to be taken into consideration.

then there should be another way to do this then?

I am trying to make GameMode development as easy as possible.

Locking away GameMode files is a step in the wrong direction, seen from player and developer sides. It makes things more complicated for GameMode developers and for me. It makes things more complicated for players.

Why exactly would it be bad if people look into your GameMode files and play around with them? I would let players cheat and experiment the same way in online play, but the reason files are getting checked and saves are stored online is that there is a competition aspect that requires me to lock the game against cheating.

The beauty of Offline play lies in the ability to customize the game. Locking exactly that feature away makes it useless.

it would be bad. its basically throwing away all the hard work putting into it all just to go to waste because someone thought cheating would be a great idea.
if others want to use the game's examples and learn from it, its between the gamemode makers and the players themselves. that alone is fine. not just having the games that are worked on just to go to waste like that.

Again, why is it bad?
It's their decision if they cheat and edit the files, not yours, unless you copyright it or something and sell it.
Really though, locking away the files is locking away the fun. For me, after I played the game, I love poking around in the files and do random stuff with it and try to make so fun results. Most people won't understand it anyways or even know where the saves are stored and just play the game.
In your place, I wouldn't really care for it, since it doesn't affect you. They have fun with your GameMode, in THEIR way, not in YOUR way. If they are restricted to have fun with it YOUR way, they won't have fun with it at all, probably.
Consider that.

theres a difference between playing a game and modding them.
what makes a fun game is experiencing.
theres nothing wrong in modding a game that is a sandbox.
Poke3D is a game that is modifiable and supported for Gamemode Makers with the exception of the it's official Server. that alone should not be tampered with, the server is for competition or just experiencing a game for what it is for fun. thats exactly what im suggesting, making a independent server for fun is entirely up to me, however, the Locking is what i want via Offline.
im sure other gamemode makers feel the same way.

its not that im making you to change your game. im suggesting another option so players can enjoy the game for what it is for the experience. just like the Gamejolt Server.

I don't quite understand. You want to make GameModes part of the Online play?

no. what i want is the Gamemode Locking.
the online play is entirely up to anyone makers since we can make a server by its self and give the IPs to people who wants to play. that is an option on its own and its available to everyone.
