the only reason i posted this was because
1. it has been trending in some of the more serious game news sites
2. there is sufficient history that the man who first hinted at this is usually right
3. the man who hinted works very close to the pokemon universe

there is enough credibilitiy and sites backing up the rumor that it's achieved a status of plausible.

also was magnemite not changed into a steel type after that type introduction?
i don't see the world ending yet.

change is change and this will only affect a small portion of currently existing pokemon

also Normal has been the place where a lot of possible 'untyped' pokemon were placed because there wasnt an accurate type for them. change is okay

I am personally against new types and will agree that the types are unlikely to be restructured for many of the same reasons as Renton mentioned.
Atleast not in main games...Mods are fun to have new types in(pokemon Brown) but I am 100% against fairy type...that is just kinda silly....I mean I can understand Light because it is the opposite of dark and It is a major element(I have always thought of Psychic as the light type...) or Sound which doesn't really have a comparable type(I support sound type the most) Pokemon Brown also had the wind type which was basically a special focused flying type.
All three of those I would be fine with(or atleast accept with only a day or so of denial) but fairy.....NOOOOOOOOOO

i understand there are awesome hacks out there, but wind type will NEVER be justified in my head. luckily wind type isn't my most despised made-up type (that right belongs to magic and abnormal).

fairy type is one i normally wouldn't agree with, i really only support the existence of Light type and that's because it would be the only one that makes the most sense.

but given the circumstances of sylveon, i'm willing to accept the possibility.

as for the retyping, i stand firm in the belief that normal type acts as a placeholder for many pokemon that can't be justified to other types, it's essentially the Potpourri of pokemon, there's so much variance in it. also, normal carries no strengths in it, so maybe giving some of it's pokemon more of a standing in fights isnt a bad thing.

i mean imagine if clefairy or jigglypuff became retyped and actually became useful for once?

clefairy is essentially the "fairy" pokemon. amongst others, the fairy type seems a valid claim for those things.
fairy type is a specific typing that includes a magical definition. the application of a fairy typing would recognize pokemon that share special attacks such as metronome or have healing powers like chansey.

the thing about magic is that it is broad. ALL POKEMON ARE MAGIC. we live in a world where lizards breathe fire, where squirrel-turtle hybrids kill rock snakes with bubbles and where mustachioed asians can pwn anything with their mind and spoons

You're getting too carried away with thinking "magic" means "general fantasy." That's not what I mean at all. In the same sense that Psychic is called "Esper" type in Japan, the Magic type is simply the English translation of "Witch" type (Majo). Magic type pokemon would not be magical beasts in general, but pokemon with explicit spell-casting powers, like Mismagius.

EDIT: I've been reading some reactions to the fairy type rumor, and many people seem to be treating the fairy type in much the same way as the magician type, being a category for spellcasters and explicitly magical creatures like Mismagius.

You've missed the point of this thread entirely.

It's not about whether its utterly false or true.
I know there's a chance that it might be utter crap I have common sense.

There is sufficient confirmation by many news sites saying the same thing. That a man who's been right before and who works close with pokemon hinted at a new type.

This gives an otherwise crappy rumor some more strength and plausibility.
This isn't a COD player saying that their dad works for MicroSoft and can ban players.

This is a legitamate leak coming from a man who is involved deeply with pokemon knowledge. And a story that has been picked up by many sites.

Here's a prediction from 4chan about which older pokemon will be retyped to Fairy. Notice that Mismagius is among them. IMO, Fairy type = Magic type, except "magic" is less easily mocked than "fairy."

One can get a great deal of mileage out of a wizard/magic type. The site that came up with the idea, Pokefactory, certainly developed a large number of magic-type pokemon.

EDIT: Also note that "Fairy" has far more potential than "Light." A fairy can essentially be any kind of spirit, good, bad, spectre, whatever. They can be themed around light, darkness, plants, air, whatever.

And this diversity is the very reason Fairy makes absolutely no sense as a Type. They do not share any characteristic in common. It's a problem with Pokemon in general. Especially the Normal type, so many of them are diverse and share no real commonality. Same with Fire type, some are actual fire or lava creatures, others can just breathe fire.

But with fire types, they all have fire in common in some way or another. Normal is supposed to be the way it is. It is, by definition, the "non-characteristic" type. What trait do Fairies have? They are all...what? Magical? Then why not call it the "Magic" type? Usually things like fire, water, earth, etc... are "magic" in fantasy stories, so....??

They are eldritch.

Actually, Jirachi would be Steel/Fairy due to it's signature move, and you missed Metronome. And they BETTER not change Meloetta's type to Fairy.
