    I did not fix this until 2/28 0.53 released on 2/22 This is marked "Fixed in Next version"(we clear out any such ones each time we release a version) so even though the version in the name is 0.52.1 it wont be fixed until 0.54

    if you are making a game mode then you might need to move stuff if then, when the new version comes out, delete the scripts, Content, and maps folders if you want to save some space

    the .dat extension is no different than .txt most of the files are the same(.poke, .trainer, etc.)

    could you turn on the debug UI(f3) and take a screenshot? also could you try opening the player.dat file, find the line "SandBoxMode|" and change the 1 to a 0 that might catch the error in a more visible way if it does something wrong try it again but press f3+l before and read what the log says
