By <>, I just meant any phrase, like sdrawkcabyllatot.
Never mind.
I understand what you're saying, but from a programmers pov, it's like teaching a 5 year old the alphabet. Something like a simple tick to a box labled 'Are you a bot' probably won't help either.

It is a similar thing to when you make passwords
it needs to be something that a person can remember easily(H8rsg0nnab8) not something a computer can guess(comparatively) easily(afhsVTEAebtawvckrhsecrtvb4tv235647)
so they same idea should apply here
some bots can still get past but they need to be MUCH smarter and thus much more expensive

I like fanta's idea, it would cost too much money to develop software that could bypass this 'PlayThru'. Even if it's free to develop, the time needed to create it wouldn't be worth it if it's only going to be used to advertise. Just my thought.

http://hackaday.com/2012/05/25/captcha-bot-beats-new-are-you-a-human-playthru-game/
this became a thing almost imediately
basically instead of putting a blatant security thing(like captchas) that a bot will detect and switch to "defeat mode" on, you need to disguise it as something simpler that the bot wont analyze like a puzzle and instead fill out
so like if there was a field labeled "don't type here if you are a bot" but the variable it takes the entry into was named something like "twitter_handle"(the actual twitter box would be called "twitter_name" or something) it is more likely to defeat a bot

Usually a bot will bypass anything it doesn't need to do, (e.g. set a profile picture, set a status) so it's possible that a bot could even pass through the anti-bot measure. This seems to be quite the problem, and it might take some time to find an answer to... if only there was a surefire way...

well linking to the twitter page isn't something that it is likely to miss

Btw, I don't think these spammers are actual bots, I believe they are humans, this happened today :

a min later it was edited to have the full advertisement.

That's why I think the best way is to ban/clean users that post one of the advertisement websites.

For now, all we can really do is manually ban the bots. If there's technology that counters Captcha, there must be something that can counter the counter.

Make it so people have to set an avatar to post. The only people I see posting without an avatar are spambots.
Or use email verification.

We do use email verification, and setting an avatar is totally up to the user, they don't have to set one if they don't want too. The bots usually set up new emails just to post spam messages on forums.

The only thing that is different is bot always post link in their first post.

Probably normal user wouldnt do that in their first post.

From what we have done, the bots only post one message (usually makes no sense what so ever) and just leave. So we don't know if they try to re-access their accounts, or if they just set up new accounts just to increase advertisement.

IDEA: make an introduction forum that every new account has to post in before they can access the rest of the forums. At the very least, it would keep all the spam in one place.
