No Sound, Only Music

I recently had to start playing Pokemon 3d on my step dad's computer. I downloaded it on and everything, but for some reason the music is the only thing playing. I went into all the options and even made the music at 23% with the sound at 100%. No matter what I do I can't hear any cries, menu noises, or anything of the sort, just the music. I tried the M key too. The computer is a Windows XP if that helps anyone. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me out. Not hearing anything in a game drives me crazy.

You may need to update Windows Media Player.

Considering Windows XP is no longer a Microsoft supported operating system, that might be it. I do not know a good answer to this problem.
