What pokemon should I use to beat the 3rd Gym?

I've tried like 8 times and I keep on getting destroyed, My party is a Gastly lvl 14, a lvl 18 Pidgeotto, and a lvl 23 Crocanaw. What should I add to my party, and what level should my existing pokemon be?

Well,if you can found a Drowzee in the route before Goldenrod,a woman in a house of goldenrod will trade a Machop for a Drowzee,and you know,machop is fight and fight is good against normal.

You can also get the HM Ride from the ride shop(replaces the bike shop)
it is a decently powerful fighting type move that all of the mid level starters can learn

i have this problem too and somehow if i hit with a fighting move it is uneffective. like wut
