Crash Launcher crashing on linux, missing "libgluezilla", possible to launch game without?

Thunder Bullet

I tried to run the launcher on kubuntu 13.10 using wine 1.7, but the launcher just crashes because "libgluezilla not found".
Libgluezilla is needed to display web content (changelog in launcher?), wine can't handle this without it. Sadly, it doesn't exist anymore.

The game itself would run fine, but how to launch it without using the launcher?

As libgluezilla does not exist anymore, I have no idea how to fix this problem myself. Is it possible to launch the game with a script? (batch/shell)

I don't want to boot windows everytime I want to play this game :(

//After some research I found out that if the launcher used webkit or some other html renderer, it would work great on linux. Any possible change in the future?

The game doesnt support linux yet, so yes, you have to boot windows every time you want to play
But dont worry, eventually it will be avaliable for linux, It is just that the game is still in a indev state, so even for windows it isnt completely stable, their first priority atm, and then they may port to linux, but I doubt it will for mac
I hope i was of help

You don't understand what I'm trying to do. Games like Borderlands 2 and Next Car Game have no Linux support either, but it's no problem to play them when wine is installed.
It would be the same for this game, but the launcher doesn't work. If the launcher used webkit or some other way of HTML rendering, it would work perfectly. If I didn't have to use the launcher at all to launch the game, the problem wouldn't even exist.

And that's what I'm trying to do. Launch the game without using the launcher. Is that possible?

I dont think so
but i will try to run the game myself on wine to see if the same problem occurs

It is not possible right now. You need the launcher to play the game, as directly opening the game without it results in the termination of the program.
Well that is the problem. I can even launch minecraft with a simple batch script so I don't have to use the launcher, I just can't enter a correct session ID so the game starts in offline mode. Why isn't it the same with this game? This would make playing it on linux (and OSX using crossfire) possible.

Also, this is a known bug with some older game launchers. Cracked versions of said games seem to work fine, but why would anyone do this to a free game?
This problem should occur on every wine-running unix-based OS, as libgluezilla is needed by the launcher, which needs firefox 3.

There are two ways to solve this problem: Use webkit (or some other way of HTML rendering) for the launcher if possible or simply upload a launcher without HTML rendering at all. It doesn't have to be written for any unix-based OS, simply for windows, but it would make playing the game possible.

1) Download and install PlayonLinux.
2) Click "Install a program".
3) Click "Install a non-listed program".
4) A new window will open.
5) Click "Next".
6) Select "Install a program in a new virtual drive" and click "Next".
7) Type a name for your virtual drive and click "Next".
8) Select "Install some libraries" and click "Next".
9) Select "32 bits windows installation" and click "Next".
10) After Wine has finished configuring your virtual drive, select the following libraries: dotnet40, xna40, d3dx9, directmusic, directplay, and wmp9 and click "Next".
11) After the libraries have finished installing, download the gamefiles and launcher from http://pokemon3d.net/downloads/
12) Put the launcher and extracted gamefiles folder in your virtual drive folder (e.g. ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/[yourvirtualdrive]/Mypokemon3dfolder).
13) Click "Browse" on PlayonLInux and select the launcher file in your virtual drive folder.
14) Enjoy the game like you normally would (albeit, without sound).

I've also attached some screenshots to show the game working.

Note: This only works for 0.46 and later.

What I did is basically the same, just that I didn't use a GUI to do this.
Installed Wine (32+64-bit), created a 32-bit wineprefix, install Pokémon3D, winetricks dotnet40, xna40, d3dx9, directmusic, directpay, wmp9 (most of them aren't even necessary with wine 1.7, I tried both, with and without these). The Launcher didn't work, "libgluezilla not found".
Are you sure this works on xUbuntu 13.10?

This problem shouldn't even be there it the launcher wouldn't need libgluezilla, that's why I'm asking for a modified launcher.

When there is one, all you need to run the game on linux is install wine 1.7, download pokémon 3d and click the launcher.exe just as if you are doing this on windows.
I tested this with ~20 games, all of them worked fine (even though I had to remove pulseaudio to get the sound working on some of them, possible fix for pokémon 3d too?) and I used games like Halo CE, GTA San Andreas (+SA-MP), Borderlands 2 (+Steam), NextCarGame and even software like Adobe Photoshop CS5. Except for halo, which needed an additional .dll file to install correctly, all of them worked without the need to install microsoft's directX, .NET, XNA and stuff like this.

So pleeease, we need a launcher without (or with different) HTML rendering!

Well, he mentioned at the bottom of the post that it only works for 0.46 and later, which isn't out yet.

It works just fine for me without libgluezilla. Do you have wine_gecko installed? Edit: I'm actually on Arch Linux, not Ubuntu. That really shouldn't matter, though.

The launcher was never a problem for me. The game itself will crash, because of a WMP DRM related issue. In 0.46 and later, the game will disable audio instead of crashing. Nils is a pretty cool guy, so he added this to help people trying to run it in WINE.

This is nice indeed.
But, does 0.46 come with a different launcher? Because that's the only problem I have at the moment. Sadly.

Also, Arch Linux could actually matter. It has no APT and package management works different. When it needs libgluezilla, it will simply compile everything necessary from source. That doesn't work on Ubuntu and debian-based dists. I had such problems with several games so far, two of them are GBA.emu and Ultrastar Deluxe, which both have dependency issues. I managed to solve them, but I couldn't get libgluezilla to work as I can't install multiple versions of firefox at once. I thought about switching to Arch Linux, but my server runs debian wheezy and I know what I'm doing on debian-like dists, I have no Idea how to use Arch Linux. That's why I haven't switched yet. I decided to switch if Kubuntu is using Mir instead of Wayland in the future, which could happen (which is not very likely).

Thanks so far!

I find it very unlikely that 0.46 will have a new launcher, unless there was a sudden change in plans.

Makes sense, it works on windows. But a special launcher without HTML content (or at least a modified one) or a simple script to get the game running would be nice. As I said, I could even launch minecraft with a simple script (well not as simple with 1.6+ anymore, but still one line) by just looking at the log when debug mode was activated. Minecraft costs money, Pokémon 3D doesn't, so why don't we get a simplified launcher?

This would bring us much closer to a linux version of the game (sort of, it will likely stay a windows game forever, but that's what many developers do to their games. Simply offer a "linux"-version with wine).

Still, thanks for your help!

Nils said no to the launcher-free version. You also seem to know a lot more about Linux than I do, which makes me question how much help I'll be able to provide. I don't suppose you know why wine_gecko isn't working for the launcher?

Edit: We also don't have the libgluezilla package on Arch. All I have installed is wine, wine_gecko, wine-mono, playonlinux (Shouldn't matter) and the aforementioned libraries.
