Since I've been playing an insane amount of Pkmn3d, I thought I might as well join and see the community I'm going to be getting to know.
A few basic things about me is that my name Will and I've been playing Pokemon for about 14 years now. My first game was Pokemon Gold. Although, I only really became a serious Pokemon fan roughly around the 3rd Gen.

How does one get a community sprite and what is it?

Basically a community sprite is something you can use to alter your appearance in-game.

Ask a skilled spriter to make one for you, then post it in the Community a Sprite Pack discussion thread. When the pack updates you can now use your skin and see others wearing their skins.

They've only come around recently, but they're still a neat thing to be a part of.
