I noticed areas entitled "Rival Name" and "Skin".

Does this mean simply changing the skin to something else that exists in the game would allow you to change your sprite? How would this work exactly, if it could work? Would it cause any errors, would I need to change anything else to allow it to work? What are the limitations? I want to be an old man sprite, any of them with awesome beards would do, in case anyone was wondering why I wanted this.

When it comes to your Rival's name, I imagine it wouldn't be as sensitive an issue? Or would it?

I ask not only out of curiosity as a player, but I want to get into programming and coding, so consider any knowledge imparted on me education as well as information.

anything changed there will be reflected in the game ;)
if you are interested about learning what is changable and how in this game you should look at this page and the ones it links to in the wiki:
http://pokemon3d.net/wiki/index.php?title=File_Paths_and_Editing
also you can ask me and the other devs about stuff if you need more help after reading those pages(I am the most likely to respond...)

Also just be warned with the exception of some of the attack files(and only to an extent) everything you can get to is done using a custom scripting language so it will get you used to some of the things you have to deal with when working with games but it wont show up in another game the same way it does here.

P.S:
The engine is written in VB(dont decompile it or anything like that since that is against the rules)
