That's totally up to you. I usually prefer to wait a looong time before I evolve mine and sometimes I don't evolve at all. For Quilava, I'd wait until level 42 so he can learn Lava Plume (or even Inferno). But if you find the TM for Flamethrower and use that, then you can just evolve whenever really. ^.^;

umm, i say ditch him for a growlithe, Arcanines are much strong. In general pokemon get stronger when the evolve so with stone evolutions try evolving them earlier as long as you have a good enough move set.

Vulpix is a sweet pick... but don't you need a Fire Stone to evolve it?

I'd wait until Vulpix is at level 50 (to learn Inferno) before evolving.
