Now I'm getting a little confused shouldn't you get out of indev when you have finished the main aspects of the game , eg the story,So it is completable ? Ah nvm whatever happens happens.

Ps. why is there a ad at the bottom of my page saying Hack but is about I.T Training courses lol
The biggest thing about this is the engine not the game. I doubt that we will finsh the engine before Kanto is done so no worries there.

Hmm Personally I'm on the fence about this based on 1 thing, I'm sure someone has already asked this and I'm sorry I really don't want to search through walls of text to find the answer, I understand that with trading and pvp battles(I think is coming out?) That you will need to limit what people can do to be fair, I'm just worried that since I have edited my main save to teach Gastly Thunder and I have a shiney that this means my save will be unusable in the future, I'm guessing the answer will be that my save file will be fine since A LOT of people have messed around with their data.
yeah thats a worry but we aren't looking to wipe saves. i can understand being worried about it though, it isn't unheard of for games to have save wipes during developement

an idea i had was to let the first version of the game to have save files protected would offer to convert an old save, with a time bomb on that feature to stop working after x months. this way people who have been playing a save the whole way through indev should be able to carry over that save to alpha or whenever we end up doing something like this. you could have special shinies you made while it was indev and new players would be like woah cool! you made it say it was caught at boner fart!

we're not going to do this just to piss on everyones cornflakes, we just want to smoothly transition in anti cheat around the time we go to alpha

engines not so bad really, theres a lot of multiplayer code to go in then the base game is looking pretty feature complete. battle class is very rigidly set up for a battle against a single pokemon so biggest hurdle is rewriting it for double and triple battles as well as enabling it to replicate data and act on it over the cloud or the multiplayer server you're connected to

when thats done we can get coop features done, get a basic pvp service going. hell yeah!

then when we have the content we polish what we have and go alpha probably. from there we'll work on engine improvements, mostly modding ones.

Well all I really want to do is be able to complete the story and beat the Elite 4 and capture all the Legendaries using my current save ,If my save gets wiped after that I'll be fine and would be happy to begin a new game in Alpha :3, If I'm correct during Alpha stages you will still be adding content correct?
:If yes then: Will this be Minor improvements or main parts of the game?
:If no then: [sad face]

Edit: Nevermind just read your 2nd post, So nothing big will be added during Alpha? or The Multiplayer improvements eg, Double,Triple battles will be added then?

no we're working on multiplayer soon. we were looking for a backend for ages and were even looking at having to roll our own but nils found gamejolt and things can go ahead much faster. we're planning pvp via the gamejolt cloud (like trading is now) which will require a bit of work on the battle systems, to make it work with it. if we can get pvp going it won't be hard to extend that to the multiplayer servers we have now, enabling actual coop. expect these BEFORE alpha. expect the whole story done and the relevant features present in g/s/hg/ss should be in. there will be more polishing done before then too

anyway, we don't have plans for after alpha, we just know at some point this game won't be an 'unfinished' and we'll go to alpha when we feel we're there. what we do after that is up to nils i guess, he doesn't seem opposed to more content after that.

if any of the work i wanted to do on the engine is not done after alpha i'll be working on them still. i'm not nils so i can't tell you his long term plans and ambitions for after alpha. i guess we'll find out whenever it is we'll go to alpha

i just picture lots of little improvements to modding, ui, pvp, coop etc coming after alpha for sure though, i just don't know what content we'll do, if any. that doesnt mean there wont ever be content post alpha, it just means i don't know

Ah well thats cool I guess I'll hang around until then to see what happens , Truthfully this project is being completed faster then I had expected (2 more gyms last update :eek:) and with new updates every week you guys are doing a great job, I really wish I could donate XD And I would if you guys would add a way of using Phone credit to donate Lol, Also I'm glad your doing PvP using GameJolt as this whole Ip thing never works for me (Plus I have almost no friends (No friends that play this (Unless PrinceVade counts?))) And I can't wait for it to come out.

it seems to be the only reasonable way to do it. people wanted like, 32 player servers to congregate on but this is going to be so much easier. we want to do matchmaking as well as a public games list but good matchmaking can't be done with just gamejolt :( we'll need a server to keep tabs on wins/losses and make adjustments to player ratings. and yeah, NAT traversal is a bonus here, no port forwards or hamachi required. we'll probably just have a quick find thing without matchmaking or client side handling of ratings changes (which is just begging for someone to decompile the exe and cheat the ratings, and rage quitters alt f4ing out before their ratings can take a hit from a loss)

maps are coming along faster because nils took on 2 mappers, vade and darkfire, who are both doing a fantastic job :) three cheers for the mappers!

Caves are annoying especially when you have 0 fps in them....

Saddly i can't upgrade... and my comp's specs are pretty good to begin with....this game is just stupid with fps management sometimes....but since me and vade are mapping you and nilllzz have more time to fix this ;)

Saddly i can't upgrade... and my comp's specs are pretty good to begin with....this game is just stupid with fps management sometimes....but since me and vade are mapping you and nilllzz have more time to fix this ;)
nils has some new visibility stuff coming, if it isn't in already. it should lower both cpu and gpu load

The most frustrating part of this for me is not that I feel the need to improve my pokemon, its that the pokemon I want comes from the sinnoh region, so its a long way off from being easily catchable.

i have no idea what the pokemon availability in our game will be like by the end but we'll probably tend towards letting people Catch Them All legit. it would certainly be a good reason to continue adding content after Kanto

right now we're still only using gens 1 and 2 officially but we plan to just add them all (gen 3-5 are a mod atm because we don't support everything in the engine yet like weird evolutions and 'formes', the mod is maintained by darkfire http://pokemon3d.net/threads/749/ ) and give the base game a mix of g/s/c/hg/ss availability, which would include gens 3 and 4. gen 5 is another matter, it will be hard for us to just shoehorn them in, we'll see how it plays out.

Yeah, I understand. Right now I am running that mod. I just am worried about when I can't switch my starter for a level 5 Riolu. Ah well, I waited most of my life for pokemon Diamond, I can wait a few years for Pokémon 3D to catch up. :D

go to <folder launcher is in>/pokemon/gamemodes/ and make a new folder, name it something appropriate
go into /pokemon/gamemodes/kolben, select GameMode.dat and copy, go back to the folder you made in gamemodes and paste the file there, open it in notepad or another plain unformatted text editor like notepad++ and change it to something like

the scriptpath and name have to change but you don't have to change description and author but you might as well!

ok so now you have a game mode and it is set to use all base game stuff except scripts we add the overriding scripts. go to /pokemon/scripts/ and select charmander.dat, squirtle.dat and bulbasaur.dat, these are the script files for the starter pokeballs in elm's lab. copy them and go to your folder in gamemodes and create a 'Scripts' folder in there and paste the scripts you copied in there. now you have your own copy of the starter scripts to play with, the game will fall back on our files if you don't supply one so you only need to put changed files in your game mode. anyway, to the whole reason i'm typing this out:

so you would change 155 to the id for the pokemon you want, you can override all 3 starters like this to your 3 fave 1st evolution pokemon

please note that players of different game modes can't access the kolben game mode's GTS. each game mode basically has their own GTS. so making a personal mod is bad for people that love GTS but we want to make all other aspects of multiplayer (coop and pvp) have as much interoperability between game modes as possible (the only restrictions we'll probably have is all players must have a mod installed if you want to coop in its maps, and the pokemon, ability and attack data all match)
