LAN issues

So Myself and another person have been trying to get this game to work with over LAN for about 2 days now and for some reason it is not working. We have gone through many possible routes to little progress, and would really like some help. I am learning about computers slowly and tried to follow the guide given here: http://pokemon3d.net/forum/resources/129/ , but the only difference i could really notice was the IPv4 being different in terms of length. my IPv4 was listed as 10.0.0.5, and when looking this up only told me that it was because the connection was saved as a private connection. Doesn't make much sense to me as to why private or public would change the ip address like that, but assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You can also use http://pokemon3d.net/forum/resources/153/ to make a lan server.

If you and your friends are using same internet, it will not require port forward.
Else you will need to access to your router/modem and open port 15124 with the local ip which is labeled local on my server console.
