As for my next trick, I'll be continually testing this using wine-mono and I'll let you guys know if/when it works and if it has any improved performance. With a native dot-net implementation, it may see better performance.

Hopefully once the new engine comes out, the performance loss will be negligible and running it through wine might become more viable for some users including myself. With that said, I don't mind dual booting into Windows. I have that partition purely for playing indie games and using Endnote.

I've been trying to get it to run on Linux through Wine for a little while now, and I created a virtual drive on PlayOnLinux, installed XNA, and tried to get .net 4 on there, but it wouldn't go. I do have Mono-.net installed, but I have heard that Wine's mono implementation isn't quite up to snuff yet. Has anyone confirmed being able to run it through Wine yet?

Also, to all those people who want a Mac or Linux native version, that is likely not going to happen. I can't speak for Nils, but I do know that he's using all Microsoft proprietary APIs to write it, so getting a native port would literally require an entire rewrite using common tools.
yes, this is the problem. we could maybe port to monogame but i dont know if nils even has a mac to test it on, i know i dont. only os i have installed is win 7

Does the sound actually go through media player to be heard, or does it just use the media player codecs? I wonder if you installed directSound in POL and enabled the microsoft sound codecs if sound would work. I think there is a way to install WMP9 with POL too.
it doesn't start up WMP but the music playing code in XNA literally uses a class called MediaPlayer and when people that didn't have it installed tried to play the game would crash when it tried to play music. it's a microsoft API so there are probably a bunch of dependencies to dlls related to WMP, I don't know which ones
