Question for Ditto Breeding/Farming

Hey guys, been lurking around this site for a while and have only been recently hooked up with Pokemon; feels like so long ago when I last mucked around with it :D

My question is particularly regarding dittos. I understand that to get perfect IVs/natures, you're meant to farm for dittos with some perfect stats and then breed like crazy. But it seems that catching dittos is a pain; I use Route 47 and lead with a magikarp to bait the dittos into morphing into tiny fishies that do nothing then false swipe.

And then I find that it averages EIGHT ultraballs to catch them, all the while not even having a guarantee that the ditto will have at least one 31 IV stat. :banghead::banghead::banghead:
May I ask if this common or am I doing something wrong in my approach? (I suspect that I may just be impatient, but c'mon, eight ultraballs?)

Thanks in advance, guys :D

sounds about right.
ditto has a relatively low catch rate, you might want to add a status effect to the false swipe, something like sleep or paralysis.

Hmm... That's a lot of ultraballs, then. So how do you guys manage to fund that?

I s'pose save/reload between unsuccessful captures might work, but that still doesn't seem to be sustainable. The other thing that springs to mind is grotto farming for nuggets/star pieces, but... that seems... a bit off to me.

use normal balls and the sleep status problem, it's 2.5 times easier to catch it with a sleep status problem than without one.
combine that with ultra balls for even easier catching, catch a bunch of them, check their stats and then reload if you didn't get what you want.
and if you have a free slots in your party you can check them as you catch them and reload immediately.

* Don't use sleep related move unless you are sure it is working. There are people claiming certain moves work.

Oh yea, some (if not all) sleep-inducing moves in the current version crash the game when used.

May I ask which ones are working, then? I've also read the rare candy+reload trick to get a more accurate reading, but the way I see things, you can only reload from one save (instead of having two save points to use); is this more efficient or would it be better to reload from just before you catch them?

just catch a few, go to the battle frontier and enter the level 100 matches and check your pokemon stats while in battle, reload after and repeat.

Last question for me (I think). Where do you access this battle frontier? I tried checking the wiki but there's nothing there.

Also, I found a decent system with catching. I tried leading with a totodile then false swipe. For some odd reason, it takes roughly 2-3 ultraballs to secure them. Don't know why, but it seems to work.

(Another question for me, now that I actually have done some proper breeding.)

The inheritance system doesn't seem to be inheriting three traits from each parent, as well as the nature; if I recall correctly, one of the offspring had a 31 stat that neither parent had, as well as also getting a nature that the parents also didn't have. It seems that my understanding of the breeding mechanics here is quite flawed; I read http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokémon_breeding, but from observation, the game doesn't seem to follow any of the things from that site. Can anyone please explain to me how breeding here works, then?

Is the pokemon with the preferred nature holding an Everstone? cause that's how you can pass the nature.
Also, without holding an EV-enhancing item (these don't exist yet in the game), the offspring would have random stats but within a close range to their parents.

Ah, I see, so it's time to farm those geodudes then, I guess. Also, actually breeding out something with perfect IVs across three or more stats becomes a nightmare, then, I guess? There's no other way around this other than cold, hard breed-hatch-check-breed-hatch-check for as many times as possible?
