About overworld wild Pokemon cries

I am not sure exactly how it is coded, but I think it would be better if the cries were localized to individual clusters of grass. That way, it makes sense that you can hear the cries so distinctly, but not see the actual pokemon. In addition, on routes surrounded with trees, you could localize the sounds to trees in the distance, to make the environment more believable.

Also, you should probably remove the cries while in cities. They are kind of random, and don't seem to originate from any particular area.

As for aquatic pokemon, I think you should only be able to hear them while you are actually surfing, and possibly while you are fishing.

It's not as random as you might think, when you hear a certain pokemon's cry in any map, that means you can catch that pokemon in that map, like grimers in celadon and poliwags in ecruteak.
Some maps have water areas that do have pokemon in them (mostly magikarps)

I actually agree that there should be more distinction between which pokemon's cries are heard
hearing a pokemon's cry while walking in a town seems abit odd...

but would make sense because the "oh look, pokemon NPC being with people! cute <3" sort of thing.
much like seeing slowpoke in Azalea.

Oh, but those don't apply here, you only hear wild cries of pokemon that you are able to catch (the list is taken from the poke files of each map)

well if there was an npc pokemon near by I would be okay with it but walking on one end of celadon and hearing a pokemon cry from the pool half way away seems odd

my point was cleared and nice to hear that crie from that same location. and as you said should not apply. which i suppose the suggestion is coming from.

Oh, I understand that aspect. My main concern is that the cries always sound incredibly near, making them seem more random than being a part of the actual environment. On that note, a wild pokemon would be unlikely to alert you to its presence when you are that near anyway, so it should make it's cry from a safer distance, like a further off grass cluster or the surrounding trees.

@Shou Liengod: That would be cute, but it tends to be more eerie when you distinctly hear the cry of the local magnemite, which upon inspection is nowhere to be seen...
