Bug Catcher
Maybe this is currently asking for too much, and I'm not a programmer in any measure, so the knowledge about Artificial Intelligence and what I'm going to say is limited to the realm of experience.
I've seen that the Elite 4, the most fearsome and cunning group of NPC trainers in the already-developed game, suck at strategy. Well, they have their own strategy, which is quite the same as the one used by Khorne's World Eaters in the Warhammer 40.000 universe: go forth and crush everything with sheer force. A greedy behavior that is seen with trainers (specially Gym Leaders) that have access to powerful attacks.
Although every Pokémon at their disposal has 4 moves and seem to be pretty much balanced, they usually spam a single attack and hope to take down their foes with that. For example, Will's Exeggutor has Psychic, Egg Bomb, Hypnosis and Barrier, but I've seen him using only his STAB move. Koga's Forretress doesn't even have a surprise factor, every time you face him, no matter what you send to the field, his first and last move will be self-destruct. No spikes, no rollout, nothing at all.
At least that's when they're trying to damage you: Karen's Gengar seems to be locked into Spite for no reason (as of 0.39, the move doesn't work).
Shockingly enough, Bruno happens to be the most intelligent of them all, with Hitmonchan answering readily to his current threat using any of his 4 different punches, and a Machamp that knows the difference between flying and ground foes. I remember that in the original G/S/C, you couldn't use Fly on Hitmontop because he would always use detect while you were about to land, and I know that this isn't possible anymore in P3D given how Fly works now.
I hope this doesn't sound like a rabid rant or something like that, and surely you're already aware of this happening, but as I didn't found anything related to Artificial Intelligence in the forums, then I posted this. This is a great game, and I realize it's not even in Alpha State, then I would like to know what can be done about it.
Thanks in advance.
