Not confirmed Surf not usable when taught before update?

I have a Tentacruel which was my water HM slave before the update, but now surf doesn't work when approaching water, and doesn't show up from the menu. I took him to the move deleter, deleted surf and re-taught it to him, but it still didn't work. I taught a Marill I had in the PC surf and waterfall and it works fine.

Both waterfall and surf work for my hm slave after the update.

have you tried just walking straight through the water, it should trigger some dialog asking if you want to use surf.
also surf works fine for me

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said approaching the water. I'm using the marill for surf now, I don't know why the tentacruel won't.

They don't have Surf in the menu... But I don't know why it shouldn't work for your Pokémon.

No, I'm doing it regularly. I've surfed since on Marill as I said, but Tentacruel won't.
